Shinya Miyamoto
Producer/engineer/mixer, drums on “Oil”, “Sleep Naked”, “I’m Too Beau’ful”, “Leave Me Alone”, “Deliver Me”, percussion on “Ferris Wheel”, MIDI organ, . Multi-talented fellow with the big picture, Hiroshima-born Shinya had a vision and went with it. Honing his skills as engineer for producer John Hill, Miyamoto, a graduate of Berklee School of Music, worked in the high speed NYC jingle world where he got to do sessions with major talents. After leaving Hill’s employ, Miyamoto worked as a mastering engineer at Sterling Sound and then, longing to play, went on tour as drummer with the Harlem Gospel Choir in Japan, Australia and Europe. Hill, a friend of Elizabeth’s, suggested Miyamoto for producer and mentioned that he’s “a great drummer”.
ER: Shinya insisted that every song is played “live”. That means that I had to sing and play everything at the same time. No putting down rhythm tracks and then overdubbing. “It must be live,” he insisted. I resisted but managed to do it as he wished. It made a big difference in the sound of the record. “It’s gotta be edgy,” Shinya insisted. Shinya’s gospel arrangements, strong vision, eclectic musical taste, strong technical abilities, persistence, meticulous charting and pre-production planning have made this album as much his as it is mine.
